January - District Dinner

Tall Timbers District Dinner was held in January. Brett received one of many awards given out to the wonderful volunteers that help make the district successful.

Nathaniel Buffington was also recognized for his achievements, one of them was earning all the merit badges that are offered to the scouts, 123 merit badges.

More volunteers being recognized and honored for what they have contributed to scouting.

A surprised and happy volunteer.

Contrast the centerpieces for the District Dinner. The top picture is your standard, normal, perfectly tasteful and very appropriate centerpiece. Crew 911 would say it's "boring." So they brought their own, complete with chainsaw.

Crew 911 did what they do best and had the most fun to boot...or foot, um, hand, whatever.

2010 Scout Fair in Houston

Scout Fair is awesome and incredibly fun. It starts by setting up the booth for your unit. Everyone helps out.

Then you take your turn to go around and see what all the other booths are doing, like this one helped you learn some origami.

Most of the kids made the balloon you could blow up into a cube.

This mom volunteer was having way too much fun.

Grandpa helped Avery finagle her way through the ropes.

This scouter put a few decorations on his car.

The patch display caught our eye.

Avery wasn't sure about this the first time she crossed the bridge but it was so much fun she went again.

Avery and Sadie did really well tossing those whatchamacallits.

But Eliora and the scout really had the form.

The fancy new waterbottle because I lost my other one :-(

Duct tape is good for all kinds of things, like keeping alligators mouths closed so brave little girls can hold them.

Abbie was not afraid, more like real cautious.

Avery wanted to take this one home for a pet. Abbie threw caution to the wind.

We're waiting for the nightsky show to begin. We had to wait in line foreveeer but the show was worth the wait!

For handholding this extended exposure, didn't turn out too bad. This was a shot of the moon and stars that we saw inside the dome.

Some more of the wildlife we saw at Scout Fair.

Another shot of wildlife, like real pirates.

Hmmm, do I want to be a pirate.....?

Everybody was doing it!!! The year of the pirates!

Captain Sparrow's girlfriend.

Captain Sparrow's girfriend's brother's pregnant and very tired wife.

Some very excellent Scouters, like Roberta and Craig on the right.

This is what I get when I ask someone to hold my camera for a minute.

Abbie was worn out at the scout fair. We couldn't wake her up.

So we were going to eat supper without her, but she finally woke up before the last french fry was gone.

Would you go to Scout Fair again?

There's a folder I use to hold my pictures that I want to post. It's getting full. So I'm taking a few minutes from genealogy to "catch up" and let you see what I've been holding back. This was taken last January. What happens when two geologists meet up? Shop talk. Never fails.

Evelyn, Shirley, Craig - Shirley is Evelyn's 1st cousin once removed and Craig's 2nd cousin, who just so happened to show up at the cemetery at the same time, otherwise, they might not have gotten a chance to meet any time soon.

Anna may have won but....

Anna has the fastest "gun" in the south. She can post pictures quicker than I can jump into my van [to race home and post a picture before she does!].

Notice how she's holding me hostage so I don't get a jump ahead of her? Second picture was taken with my camera, before the race.

Oh, and she can blog better than I can. My dashboard changed, now I have to figure how to put text with photos and how to post a video. Just when you think you have the hang of the technology it all changes - again.

Anna may have won...
